dinner time 3The dinner time atmosphere should be happy and relaxed. Dinner time should be a time you and your family look forward to. Many people don’t realize that mood affects digestion. The better your mood, the better your body will digest the foods you have eaten.

To that end, when it’s time for dinner try to eliminate all distractions. Dinner time is a time to focus on you and your family. Turn off the your cell phones. You should even go as far as to let people know when you eat dinner so they know not to bother you during this time.

Give thanks for your meal and pause and be grateful for the blessings of the day. Keep the conversations pleasant. Don’t use dinner time to bring up troubling topics. The happier you are the better you food will digest. This in turn will allow maximum nutrients to be absorbed into your body.

Is It Okay To Discuss Problems During Dinner Time?

It would depend on the type of problem you are discussing. If the problem is one of discipline, punishment or relationship, wait till after dinner. If the problem is a “how to” problem like how to fix dinner time 2something or where to go, then it can be discussed. The key is to make sure your conversation will promote smiles and laughter.

Often people will go to dinner with someone in order to tell them bad news. Some people will use dinner time as a time to argue and fight. This is the worst thing you could do for your digestion. For parents, dinner time can give you a chance to reconnect with your children. Especially if they are teenagers. Spending time with your children in this way goes far beyond nutrition. Studies show that teens who eat meals with their families at least five times per week are three times less likely to try marijuana.

They are two and a half times less likely to smoke cigarettes, and one and a half times less likely to start drinking alcohol. Studies also show that teens who eat dinner time meals with their family get better grades in school.

Dinner time is definitely family time. Get you family involved in making the dinner as well. Let dinner time be a social time for everyone. Fill it with fresh healthy foods, and good conversation. Try these tips the next time you have dinner.
