Your saliva contains enzymes called amylase and ptyalin. These enzymes help to breakdown carbohydrates. If you don’t chew enough, you don’t give these enzymes the time to do their work. Try chewing each bite twenty to thirty times. Put your fork down during your chewing and enjoy the taste of your meal.
  2. Use Your Molars To Chew – Avoid using your canines to chew as lions, tigers, and wolves do. healthy eating 2They have a very short digestive tract. They also have a huge amount of acid in their stomachs to digest big chunks of meat. Our bodies don’t have nearly the same amount of acid. Our digestive tracts are also longer. The longer the food is in our digestive tracts, the less nutrients are being absorbed into our blood stream where it is needed. In order for healthy eating to take place we need to digest as much food as we can before it gets to our intestines.
  3. Slow Down – When it comes to healthy eating, you get more nutrition from eating less but eating slowly than eating more and eating quickly. In other words, it’s better to eat leshealthy eating 3s and take your time than to rush and eat more. When you eat quickly the acid production in your stomach is suppressed. This hampers digestion. Also, because it takes about 20 minutes for food to get to your intestines and then signal your brain you are full, eating slowly helps this process.   4. Avoid Drinking Cold Drinks With your Meal – This will be hard for most people. I still have a challenge with this one. Cold drinks inhibit healthy eating. It dilutes and dampens the stomach acid and enzymes. It essentially makes them less effective. Think of starting a campfire, then pouring water over it. Not a very efficient of starting a fire is it?
