Over the last few decades, Americans have become the most overfed yet undernourished nation in the world. There is a convenient fast food restaurant almost on every corner these days. Most Americans have become so busy that Eating Well and healthy is a luxury rather than a standard. When most people feel sick they run to the doctors office for a quick fix. Usually it comes in the form of pills and pain relievers, which just take away the symptoms, while the underlying cause of the problem still remains.

And, because the pills mask the symptoms, you think you are well again. Then you think you are reclaiming your health. We take pills for everything these days. Pills for feeling dizzy, pills for high blood pressure, indigestion, high cholesterol, even sexual problems. Yet despite all our dependence on pills, according to a government study, most middle aged Americans report feeling less healthy than their predecessors. The life expectancy of our children is TEN years less than ours. This can’t be right, can it?reclaiming your health 3 The truly sad part is that most of us are dying from preventable diseases.

With all the recent advancements in medicine, how is this possible? The answer is simple yet hard for us as a culture to digest. We are avoiding to take responsibility for our own health. We simply fail to choose to live a healthy lifestyle. We have become dependent of symptom treatment rather than problem cure. Reclaiming your health has to start with you, not your doctor. Your doctor should help you in reclaiming your health, but not be singularly responsible.

How Can You Begin the Process Of Reclaiming Your Health?

Studies have shown that the link between diet and disease is becoming more and more apparent. Since the introduction of processed foods in the American diet, hospital visits, obesity, medical prescriptions, have all steadily increased. Most American Children don’t even know what a potato looks like from the ground. Their only experience with potatoes is in the form of potato chips, processed mashed potatoes, and french fries.

The term “Whole Food” had to be invented to mean food not produced in a factory. We must change the way we see and buy foods. Most of the boxed and canned foods have been processed in some way. Most shopping carts have very few FRESH fruits and vegetables by the time they make their way to the checkout station. The only way you can start reclaiming your health is to get back to basics and eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables every day.

Make food from scratch at home rather than eating out. You might say, “when I go to a decent restaurant, aren’t they making thereclaiming your health 2 food fresh?” The answer is, most restaurants get a lot of bulk products, and you don’t know how they cook their foods. That’s not to say that there aren’t plenty of healthy good restaurants out there because there are. The problem is we as a society rely on them too much for our dietary requirements.

We need to spend more time cooking at home with fresh ingredients. The television, and the internet are rich with recipes we can use to make fresh healthy meals for our family. Eating out has become common while eating at home has been reserved for special occasions. It wasn’t that long ago when the reverse was true. Learning to read labels would go a long way in reclaiming your health. Let’s make 2016 the year you start reclaiming your health and eating freshly prepared foods in your home from scratch. Your body will thank you.
