It seems that everyone carries around a bottle of water with them these days. In fact, water has become the second most popular beverage. Second only to soft drinks. Sure your body can extract water from the things that you eat like fruits, vegetables, milk, and fruit juices, but your body also need pure water.
The benefits of water start with its ability to hydrate the body. We loose water continuously. Water lose occurs from skin evaporation (sweating), urine and stools, even breathing causes water loss. Water losses increase during strenuous activity, high temperatures, and high altitudes. This water must be replaced for our bodies to function in a healthy way. Drinking plenty of water helps our bodies retain healthy fluid levels. Our bodies are 60% water, which means we use it for everything.
Water aids the body in digestion of foods and liquids. When you drink fruit juice or soda, your body needs water to break down those substances. When you eat a meal or a snack, your body needs water to digest that as well. If you don’t drink enough water, your body well get the water from somewhere else like you eyes, muscles, or saliva. Your body needs water to produce tears which keeps your eyes moist and hydrated. Your body also uses water to produce saliva. Many people today suffer from dry eyes and dry mouth.
This can also be caused by taking certain medications, drinking caffeine and alcohol. All of these substances draw water out of the body. Water our body’s need to function. Water also helps to transport nutrients and oxygen throughout the body. The benefits of water don’t stop there. Water also washes and cleans the body of toxins. You can’t clean your body with juices, coffee, or alcohol, you must drink fresh clean water.
Water also helps in skin elasticity. Drinking plenty of water helps the skin look younger and maintain a youthful tone. To really get the benefits of water, try not to wait until you are thirsty to drink it. Thirst is a tell tale sign of dehydration. You should drink water throughout the day whether you are thirsty or not. For something that has no taste or smell it sure is important to our health. Water has been jazzed up with colors and flavors in an effort to get more people to drink it. The truth is you need pure water to help keep your body at a balanced pH level. Drinking water doesn’t have to be a chore. Just start by replacing one other type drink with one glass of pure water per day. Then increase it to two and so on until most of the liquid you drink is pure water. Do this and you will start to see and feel the benefits of water.
