The immune system uses your body tissues along with chemical reactions to defend the body against harmful bacteria, other microbes, viruses, parasites and free radicals. Different types of harmful invaders produce different types of responses from the body. Antibodies are produced by the immune system to seek out intruders and destroy them. The body even remembers the types of intruders that enter the body so that if they come back, the body is ready for them. The immune system is truly amazing.

This is why it is so important to give the immune system the proper nutrients so that it will function a peak efficiency. the Lymphatic Systems plays a very important role in overall immune function. The Lymph Vessels are responsible for circulating and draining the body fluids to and from the body’s organs. this fluid known as Lymph, transports needed nutrients to the organs, while removing any excess or wastes substances from them.

Then there is the White Blood Cells. These are the body’s defense soldiers. They are programmed to kill a wide range of harmful intruders. These soldiers are produced by the thymus and bone marrow. From there they are released into the Lymph, then circulated throughout the body. they are there to protect and serve. Your blood contains about 50 billion white blood cells, and they all need nutrients so that they can defend the body against any harmful attackers.

What Foods Should I Eat To Help Boost and Keep My Immune System Healthy?

The truth is that living a healthy lifestyle is the best way to produce and maintain a powerful immune system. Keeping you immune system 2antioxidant intake high and free radical intake low is a great start. this can be done by avoiding or limiting your intake of processed foods, fatty meats, red meats, while eating antioxidant rich fresh fruits, vegetables, seeds, and nuts. Here are some specific foods you can add to you diet to accomplish this.

  1. Dark Leafy Greens, Carrots, and Bell Peppers. These types of vegetables contain lots of vitamin A. Vitamin A protects the body from infection. It does this by moisturizing the mucous membranes while producing healing enzymes.
  2. Almonds, and Sunflower Seeds. Both of these foods are very high in vitamin E. Vitamin E is a fat soluble compound that acts as a very powerful antioxidant. It not only keeps your hair and skin healthy, but it plays a very large roll in preventing prostate and bladder cancer. It also helps fight Alzheimer’s Disease.
  3. Citrus, Strawberries, Broccoli, and Papaya. These are all foods rich in vitamin C. Vitamin C is perhaps the most well known immune system booster of them all. This vitamin stimulates the manufacturing of white blood cells, the aforementioned soldiers of the body. Vitamin C also helps to protect the eyes and joints while protecting the body from certain kinds of cancers. Vitamin C is a very powerful antioxidant, that kills free radicals and their formation.
  4. Oats, Pumpkin Seeds, Spelt, and Sesame Seeds. These are zinc rich foods. zinc is used by the body to help maintain white blood cell count, while helping to heal and close wounds.
  5. Garlic. This food has been know for years to have antiviral, and antibacterial properties. It is a natural antibiotic. It is vital in helping to prevent kidney and colorectal cancers.
